Side Game Wizard

With Golfstakes, you can add any number of side games to your round using our patent pending side game wizard.  Setup is quick and easy and can be done before the round at the Golfstakes website, or at the course using your web enabled cell phone.

Multiple groups can be added to any round which allows you to create side games with any number of players.  This is a great feature for leagues and tournaments. Simply add the groups, add the games, choose which players are in each game and Golfstakes will do all the calculations for you.

Some games even have the ability for "Auto" presses.  For instance, in a Match Play game, you can set 2 down "Auto's" and when one player or team is down 2 holes, Golfstakes will add an auto press to the game.

Side Game Summary shown after each hole

If a player in the group is entering scores on a mobile phone while playing, Golfstakes will show where each side game stands after each hole.  This allows players to react after each hole by adding "Manual" presses or changing the point weight of any game at any time during the round.

Since side games can be played across multiple groups, players in any group can also add "Manual" presses or change the point weight for any side game they are in at any time.

Side Game descriptions and how they are scored

Golfstakes currently has 22 different side games to choose from, and all of these can be scored on a web enabled cell phone!

Below is a list of several popular games that can be played with an explanation of the game and how they are scored.

Abilene
Abilene is a 4 player game with teams of 2 that can be played as a 4 or 5 point game per hole.

If one team wins all of the points for the hole, it is known as a "Bucket" and an additional point can be added, or the points can be doubled.

1 point is awarded for each of the following:
  • Long drive in the fairway
    (5 point only)
  • Closest to the pin in regulation
  • Low Ball
  • Low team total
  • Low team putts
Best Ball
Best ball can be played using 2-, 3- or 4-person teams. Each player on the team plays his or her own golf ball throughout the round, and on each hole the low score - or "best ball" - of the group serves as the team score.

You may also choose how many balls to count for the best ball.  It will then combine that number of "best balls" to calculate the team score

Bingo-Bango-Bongo
The player who is on the green first
(Bingo) wins a point.

The player who is closest to the pin
once everyone is on the green (Bango)
wins a point.

The player who holes out first (Bongo)
wins a point

If a players wins all the points, an additional point can be added or the points can be doubled
Match Play
This game is played hole by hole and the winner of each hole is the player or team with the lowest score on that hole.  This game is scored for front nine and back nine, where as Match Play 18 goes for the entire 18 holes.

You can also specify how many holes a player or team is down before an additional game starts known as a "Press".  If you specify 2 down autos, when a player or team loses 2 holes without winning one in between, an additional Match Play game will start for the remaining holes.

IE: Team A loses hole 1, ties hole 2 and loses hole 3.  Team A will be 2 down on the original game, and a new game will start for holes 3 - 9 (Press) in addition to the original game for holes 1 - 9.
Nassau
This game is very simialr to Match Play where the game is played hole by hole and the winner of each hole is the player or team with the lowest score on that hole.  The difference is that this game has three seperate matches, a front nine, a back nine, and an overall 18 hole match.  The 18 hole match is calculated using a running total of the front and back nine.  The points are then added or subtracted from the original game.

Nine Point
This game can only be played with 3 players.
Each player is awarded points for his/her score in relation to the other players in the game with all points adding up to 9.

Points are awarded as follows:
All players tie
3 points each

One player has low score, other 2 tie
Low player = 5 points
Tying players = 2 points each

One low, one middle, one high score
Low player = 5 points
Middle player = 3 points
High player = 1 point

Two tie low score, one high
Low players = 4 points each
High player = 1 point

Skins
The player or team that has the lowest score on a hole wins a "skin".  Skins can be played either as a set point value for each skin (no carry over), or played using carry overs.

Carry overs will accumulate the points for each hole that was tied making the skin pot worth more points until one player or team wins the skin pot.  Once the pot has been won, the points will reset to the original amount.

Carry over example
The skins game is setup for 1 point per skin with carry overs.  All players tie holes 1 - 3.  On hole four, player A has the lowest score, he or she would win the skins pot that is now worth 4 points.
Stableford
Players or teams are awarded points for their score on each hole. The winner of the game is the player or team with the most total points.

Points are awarded as follows:
0 - Double bogey or higher
1 - Bogey
2 - Par
3 - Birdie
4 - Eagle
5 - Double Eagle (Albatross)
6 - 4 strokes under par
Train Wreck
This game is similar to a Stableford where players are awarded points for their score on each hole.

The kicker to this game is that if a player makes a double bogey, or 2 bogeys in a row, they lose all the points they have accumulated. Hence the name "Train Wreck".

Points are awarded as follows:
Lose all points - Double bogey or higher
1 - Bogey
2 - Par
3 - Birdie
4 - Eagle
5 - Double Eagle (Albatross)
10 - Hole in One
