Zambian police boarded a South African Airway (SAA) flight upon touchdown on Thursday evening and deported Maimane, the DA said in a statement.
No reason was given for the deportation.
The DA leader was arriving in Zambia on Africa Day to attend and observe the treason trial of Zambian opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema on Friday at the Lusaka Magistrate's Court.

The South African government has not yet responded to Maimane's deportation.
