Cross-progression is among the most notable things about Fortnite: Battle Royale. I am able to play the exact same accounts an unlock rewards if I am in my PS4, my PC, or my cellphone, which would be my three chief platforms as of today. But now I will be replacing the PS4 aspect of that equation with Xbox Switch and One: a superior setup, but one that will require me to utilize my alternate account.
Heavy is the head, however, and now Sony's inflexible position on cross-progression is looking pretty frustrating next to the today wide-open Microsoft.
It is going to be hard for Sony to walk the Fortnite thing back, even if fortnite weapons might eventually make a broader escape. Lots of players like me will already have begun alternative accounts and arleady formed a kernel of resentment against the PlayStation. The game is far from up, but it is not Sony's greatest moment.
Update: I have seen some confusion about Twitter, so it should be clear that unlinking your own PSN account doesn't enable you to migrate your Epic accounts to Xbox One and Switch. The account is labeled as having been connected to PSN, and it won't be changed. The Epic Games website is quite clear about this when you attempt to unlink your accounts --notice the previous box.
