When you think of reflective sneakers, 3M probably comes to mind 99 times out of 100. If you’ve got your ear to the streets, the other time would be the stunning glass bead-embedded fabric made by DDCLAB in Schoeller, Switzerland. Adding another innovative fabric to the new balance sale credits are the New Balance 420 Schoeller See-Thru Pack. Instead of a reflective fabric, these feature an underlay of ‘Spirit’, a dope new textile with an interesting semi-transparent/translucent effect. When looking at these pictures, it’s only partialy obvious because the ribbed fabric has a colour of its own, but when worn, the Spirit underlay will reveal the colour of its owner’s socks or skin.
A while back, we did a piece on the Nigo-exclusive Bape decreasers. As most sneakerheads know, it’s hard to keep non-iced kicks free of wrinkles, and decreasers are one of the more popular methods toward that end. The Metal Infused new balance 574 sale takes the desire for smooth sneakers a step further, weaving metallic fibers into the nylon toe and side panels, which makes the composite material impervious to visible aging. Atop the ageless nylon are suede toeboxes, side overlays, eyelets and heels.
The Reflective new balance 420 sale was created in collaboration with design house, DDCLA, spearheaded by DDCLAB co-owners and recently-named NB Lifestyle Creative Directors, Savania Davies-Keiller and Roberto Crivello. The limited edition shoes features a reflective textile made by a thin layer of tiny glass beads that cooperate with a reflective agent. This Schoeller Switzerland made fabric is scuff and tear resistant, water and dirt repellent and is used on the entire shoe’s upper for the first time. Each pair will be packaged in a special-edition dust bag that will be numbered for authenticity and signed by both of New Balance’s Creative Directors.
In recent months, it’s been overshadowed by other classic models from the NB running vaults but the New Balance 420 has quite a bit of history behind it. The story starts with the new balance 996 damen winning Runner’s World’s 1982 shoe of the year and zooms into the future with some early 2009 releases opting for crazy material blends. But this latest trio of New Balance 420s sticks with a basic suede and nylon mix to make the most of their bold two-toned palettes.
