Smoking opponents want the Simi Valley City Council to follow Moorpark's example and ban cigarette smoking in restaurants and workplaces.

He said the task force, a coalition of 33 health and environmental groups, lobbied for the tougher Los Angeles smoking law.
Zovar, who urged Simi Valley leaders to further restrict smoking in public, said many Southern California cities are moving in that direction.
"When it comes down simplifying the issue, safe air is good for our health, safe air is good for business and safe air makes good political sense," he said.

Plain cigarette packaging is effective and should lead to 300,000 fewer smokers in the first year after being introduced in the UK, a major new study suggests.
Data from Australia, which imposed the policy in 2012, found that restricting the colour, size and font on packages was associated with a noticeable drop in the number of people smoking in the first 12 months.

It's comic relief, certainly, but Feldshuh makes it clear that the relief is more for Meir's own conflicted soul than for the audience.
